Anschließend werden Erklärungsmodelle skizziert, die aufzeigen sollen, wie es zu Aggressionen kommt und auf welche Weise sich Aggressionen in Gewalt transformieren. Zunächst soll sich im ersten Teil mit dem Gewaltbegriff auseinandergesetzt und gezeigt werden, weshalb eine präzise Definition bei der Untersuchung möglicher Zusammenhänge zwischen medialer und realer Gewalt unerlässlich ist. Zudem wird versucht, ein umfassendes Gewaltverständnis zu entwickeln, das reale und mediale Gewaltphänomene einschließt und ihr Verhältnis zueinander beleuchtet.
Der Hauptteil befasst sich mit der Darstellung von Gewalt im Fernsehen und in Computerspielen. Grundlage des ersten Teils wird die groß angelegte Studie aus den united states sein, die folgenden Titel trägt: „National tv Violence examine“ (NTVS).
[...] Es werden keine Interpretationen über intent der Spieler angestellt oder deren Nutzungsverhalten. Eingehende Analysen in diesem Bereich würden ebenfalls ins Uferlose führen und den Rahmen dieser Hausarbeit sprengen.
