“Snow’s was started during a very local and intimate era.”

A hundred years ago, Snow’s Garden and Landscaping Center opened for business. You could say, given their longevity, they’re more local than most! Their roots are deep in the community, as four generations of Snows have owned and operated the business: Leroy H. and Maggie in the teens, ’20s and ’30s; Leroy W. from the ’30s to the ’70s; Duane and Rena from 1978 until 2003; and Corbin (with business partner Scott Price) since then.

Snow’s employs around 50 people and is the go-to provider for many Charlottesville residents when it comes to landscape design, gardening products, plants or general gardening advice. Corbin also hosts the “Snow Knows” gardening radio program every Saturday morning on WINA, a show started by his grandfather, Leroy W., in 1950.

When asked how Snow’s keeps it local, Corbin said, “I love local growers, and we are always searching for new local products, growers, orchards and anything we can to help sustain other local small businesses. The majority of our plant material is grown in Nelson County. Almost all of our annuals and perennials are grown in Albemarle, Greene and Nelson counties. Locally grown plants are already accustomed to our climate and growing conditions, which helps our customers be more successful gardeners.” snowknows.com
